There’s been so much to talk about in the last few days as Rafa Benitez’s long-term position at Newcastle United was cast into doubt after an eerily quiet January transfer window, though the Spaniard has proved to be rather defiant today.

After stating he will not quit his task in getting the Toon Army promoted, Newcastle finally brought in a new talent this year, appearing to confirm the signing of Spanish midfielder Victor Fernandez. While there hasn’t yet been anything announced on the official website, @NUFC360 have tweeted a photo of the 18-year-old penning a deal with the Magpies.

Joining from UE Cornella in the Spanish second division, the talented teen has signed professional terms on Tyneside as the club finally add to their ranks following the infamous collapse of Andros Townsend’s potential return on Deadline Day.

Whether or not he’ll be playing under his compatriot remains to be seen of course, though it is at least promising to see the youth ranks being stocked.
