Will Cheick Tiote EVER leave Newcastle United?

Having seen moves to the likes of Turkey and China break down during the closing stages of each one, the Ivorian central midfielder has been strongly linked with a move to La Liga strugglers Sporting Gijon.

The 30-year-old midfielder looked to have played his last game for the Magpies against Birmingham City in the FA Cup last week, though reports from Spanish outlet El Desmarque Asturias claim the Spaniards are going cold on the switch.

Sporting’s new coach is thought to have expressed doubts about the holding midfielder as he plots to bring in a more capable passer, reportedly already boasting three defensive midfielders in his current ranks.

If these reports are to be believed, it would leave Newcastle’s longest-serving current outfield player at a crossroads. Only kept at St. James’ Park as cover recently, the emergence of more dynamic options over the past few years have pushed him further down the pecking order.
