Mentioned in a report from the Daily Mirror, Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is reportedly considering allowing forward Aleksandar Mitrovic leave in January.

The Serbian is a cult hero on Tyneside, though has largely played second fiddle to Dwight Gayle this season and has been linked with moves away from St. James’ Park.

Moves to the likes of West Ham United have been touted for the 22-year-old, who was recently stretchered off against Birmingham City in the FA Cup.

It’s not clear whether or not his injury would change things, though the report claims Benitez is weighing up letting him leave.

Daryl Murphy has been utilised more in recent weeks as a backup to Gayle, while there have also been recent links with strikers such as Scott Hogan and Josef Martinez.

Mitrovic is one of the most popular players in black and white, though his Newcastle career has been blighted by injuries, disciplinary problems and difficulty getting into the side.
