It was barely the most magical of FA Cup ties as Birmingham City held Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle United side to a 1-1 draw.

With the Spaniard at the helm, the traveling Toon Army would have hoped for better fortunes in the country’s oldest knockout competition, though once again struggled to pull away after taking the lead.

Benitez sprung a surprise in his team selection by naming the likes of Massadio Haidara, Cheick Tiote and Daryl Murphy, though the latter sure vindicated his manager by opening the scoring.

Still, it turned out to be a sour day for Aleksandar Mitrovic, who was stretchered off the pitch after being given oxygen in what looks like a serious injury to the Serbian.

As ever, the Magpies failed to properly take their chances after scoring first and allowed Blues forward Lukas Jutkiewicz to level the scores and take the game to a replay they really don’t need.

So, what did we learn? Here are THREE things.
