The World Cup winner worked with Rafa Benitez at Liverpool to great success, establishing himself as one of the greatest ever Premier League forwards.

While his career took a downturn ever since he moved to Chelsea in 2011, a deal that saw Toon striker Andy Carroll join the Reds as a replacement, he levelled out somewhat when returning to his boyhood charges.

Still, while with the Blues, the Spaniard won the Europa League under Benitez in 2013 before being allowed to join AC Milan.

It’s not clear exactly what the story is as yet, though there’s little doubt the 32-year-old would be one of the biggest name signings in the club’s history.

Dwight Gayle is currently the first-choice centre-forward at St. James’ Park, having notched an impressive 19 goals so far this season.

Would Torres fit in at Newcastle? Let us know below…
