Rafa Benitez has hinted Newcastle United could be open to the idea of allowing Tim Krul to join a different club on loan as his time with Ajax doesn’t appear to be working out.

The Dutchman was loaned to the Eredivisie giants over the course of the summer, after penning a long-term new deal on Tyneside, as he looked to recover from a lengthy injury. However, he’s barely been able to get a game in the Dutch capital, only making five appearances in their reserve squad.

As a result, the 28-year-old Oranje international had been touted as a potential target for Chelsea as they reportedly weigh potential alternatives to Asmir Begovic. Still, while the shot-stopping department with the Toon Army right now is really rather stacked, wth the likes of Rob Elliot, Matz Sels and Karl Darlow available to Benitez right now, he has suggested Krul would only be allowed to leave on a temporary basis.

“Tim is a top-class keeper who needed some time because he has been injured,” said the Spaniard (with our quotes sourced from the Sunderland Echo.)

“He has been playing for the Ajax Under-21 team, so if someone is interested in a keeper then it’s always a name that people will look at.”

“We’ve had one club asking, but we weren’t very happy with the idea because it was not the right club.”

“But if someone is asking, then we have to consider it, because we sent him on loan with the idea for him to play. “It’s important for him to keep playing, or have this chance.”
