Newcastle United could be set for a January arrival in the shape of Torino forward Josef Martinez, according to Italian outlet Tuttosport (via Sport Witness.)

It’s said the Venezuelan is currently weighing up his options in Turin, with offers from both the Toon Army and German side Hamburg reportedly on the table.

Able to operate across the frontline, the 23-year-old would provide cover and competition for the likes of Dwight Gayle, Daryl Murphy and the recently injured Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Crucially, the South American can also play on the wing, an area the Magpies have been found somewhat lacking in of late.

Rolando Aarons’ injury and Christian Atsu’s departure for the African Cup of Nations leave only the likes of Yoan Gouffran and Matt Ritchie as recognised wide men as things stand.

He’s currently under contract in Turin until 2018, though is understood to be mulling over his choices right now, with the Serie A club thought to be open to the idea of a sale.

Capped 37 times at international level, he’s also played for Young Boys and Thun in Europe, starting his career at Caracas in his homeland.
