Leeds United striker Chris Wood is now targeting catching up with second-placed Newcastle United as his side hunt for automatic promotion, speaking to LUTV (with quotes sourced from the Mag.)

The Whites held off Steve McClaren’s Derby County at Elland Road on Friday night to win 1-0 and move within four points of the Toon Army, who currently trail league leaders Brighton and Hove Albion by two points.

Crucially, Chris Hughton’s Seagulls also have a game in hand.

Perhaps now more than ever, and certainly since a perfect October put the Magpies top of the league, Rafa Benitez’s side are looking over their shoulders as the chasing pack continue to make life difficult at the summit of England’s second tier.

Though Reading lost to Queens Park Rangers on Thursday night, it certainly is tight at the top of the league and 24-year-old Kiwi marksman Wood seems optimistic about their chances of keeping up the pace.

“We can look up at Newcastle and Brighton now”, he declared (thanks to the Mag for sourcing such quotes from Leeds’ official club TV channel.)

“As it stands we are now only four points behind them.

“We will have a day off and then get in and work hard to be ready for the weekend.”
