According to the Chronicle, Crystal Palace want both their money back and a loan fee if they are to let Andros Townsend return to Newcastle United during the closing stages of the January transfer window.

The 25-year-old has been strongly linked with a return to Tyneside, just six months after joining the Eagles, as he has struggled to wholly convince in south London. A hugely popular figure in black and white during his short stint at St. James’ Park, the former Tottenham man would undoubtedly go some way into aiding Rafa Benitez’s promotion push.

Having moved to Selhurst Park for around £13m, this report claims the England international also has a minimum fee release clause of around the same price in his contract with Sam Allarydce’s side. While that wouldn’t be too bad a price for a reasonably young international, Palace reportedly want to add a loan fee for the first six months.

That would see the Magpies shell out more than they sold him for, not something in total keeping with Mike Ashley’s policy in the North East.
