It’s been so long since Newcastle United produced a genuine academy graduate to contest for a starting spot in the first-team and that is certainly that needs to change.

With Rafa Benitez constructing a huge rebuild both on and off the pitch as he attempts to restore the good times to St. James’ Park, you get the feeling that a homegrown star for the fans to enjoy is the next stage in that process.

Well, while Adam Armstrong has a burgeoning reputation as a hugely exciting young forward, perhaps the Toon can call on another.

Young striker Tom Heardman has been in lethal form this week for the Magpies’ U23 side, coached by Geordie legend Peter Beardsley.

The 21-year-old hit TWO hat-tricks in just seven days as those in black and white romped to a 7-0 win over Burnley U23s and then to a 6-0 thumping against Bradford’s team of the same age.
