As revealed by the Shields Gazette, Newcastle United have so far been unwilling to meet Bournemouth’s reported £15m valuation of forward Callum Wilson.

The striker has been touted as a potential target for Magpies chief Rafa Benitez as he looks ahead to what is hopefully a quick-fire return to the Premier League.

While summer signing Dwight Gayle has been in sensational form for the Toon Army, notching 19 goals thus far, though doubt has been cast over the future of Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Despite the Serbian’s standing as one of the Toon’s most popular players, he has largely played as second fiddle to Gayle in the Spaniard’s 4-2-3-1 formation.

Though there is thought to be interest in former Coventry City forward Wilson, the Magpies are not believed to be willing to meet the £15m valuation the Cherries are said to have placed on the 24-year-old.

That would make him one of the most expensive players in the club’s history, not far behind the club-record £16m splashed out on Michael Owen.
