Newcastle United striker Daryl Murphy was recently touted as a potential January exit, linked with a rather surprising move back to former club Ipswich Town.
Signed over the course of the summer, injuries have prevented the Republic of Ireland international from getting much in the way of game time on Tyneside.
Clearly signed as cover for both Aleksandar Mitrovic and Dwight Gayle, the 33-year-old has somehow managed to have even less impact that many expected him to at St. James’ Park.
While the notion of making a return to Portman Road was laughed off by Mick McCarthy, would it really be a surprise to see the former Sunderland man make a move?
It’s easy to see why Rafa Benitez opted to bring him in initially, but surely he won’t stick around if the Magpies do make an instant return to the proverbial Promised Land.
