Top brass within Newcastle United have decided not to bring burgeoning forward Adam Armstrong back to the club in January, according to the Chronicle

Rafa Benitez has largely operated with a formation that deploys just one striker and the Toon Army are understood to be keen on allowing the 20-year-old more time to bank first-team games away.

Currently on loan with Barnsley, the England youth international recently picked up a knock and has missed a few games of late.

With that in mind, it seems Benitez is putting his faith into Ayoze Perez as the club’s first-choice No.10, with Mo Diame departing for the African Cup of Nations in the New Year.

Armstrong is one of the most highly-rated players to come out of the Magpies’ academy in years and was particularly impressive during his loan stint at Coventry City last term.

His deal with the Tykes runs out on January 3rd, and while the Yorkshire outfit are understood to be in the driving seat, there is said to be interest from elsewhere in the Championship and the SPFL.

Are Newcastle making the right decision in allowing Armstrong to stay away? Let us know below…
