Benitez explains forward situation ahead of big decision

|

With Cardiff City next to travel up to St. James’ Park in order to take on the mighty Toon Army, the Bluebirds face a tough task on Saturday whether a certain Neil Warnock is in charge or not.

Still, the Welsh outfit could look upon Rafa Benitez revealing that Championship top scorer Dwight Gayle could miss the clash at St. James’ Park favorably.

The 26-year-old, who recently won the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month after notching four times in October, was ruled out for the last game with Preston with a slight hamstring injury.

Though Benitez has confirmed (with our quotes sourced by Squawka) that the £10m summer signing has returned to training, Saturday’s game may just come too soon for him.

While missing such a lethal striker at this level is clearly a blow, there’s a certain Aleksandar Mitrovic waiting in the wings.

The Serbian has been in fiery form of late, notching four goals in two games against the Lilywhites and is slowly looking like the sort of forward the Toon Army so wanted him to be last term.

“He was training but we have to be cautious with him; we will see in two or three days,” he said at his pre-match press conference.

“We have some time and we will see how he feels. At the moment he is training and improving little by little.”
