Though the nature of the result in the last round of the EFL Cup (a 6-0 win over Preston North End) was obviously something to shout about, the game itself meant oh so much more than that.
In front of over 49,000 people on a weeknight at St. James’ Park, Rafa Benitez’s decision to take cup competitions seriously was just another plus in the rising moods on Tyneside.
So with that in mind, the fact the travelling Toon Army (who have been in fine fettle this season) have been awarded under 3,000 tickets for the quarter-final clash with Hull City is even more disappointing.
The club has been offered a maximum allocation of 2,474 tickets. Unfortunately, no additional tickets will be made available by @HullCity.

No additional tickets will be made, leaving swathes of the Magpies’ famous away support stranded as just a lucky few make their way to Humberside.
Never to be defeated, the Toon Army have taken to Twitter to plead with the club to introduce another ‘beam back’ scheme for the clash on November 29th.
A live stream of the Barnsley game on October 18th was shown at St. James’ Park and fans on social media have been praying that happens again.
