With oh so many goalkeepers from which to choose right now, Newcastle United have let a promising one out on loan in order to aid his development.

As confirmed by their official website, non-league outfit Blyth Spartans have landed Toon stopper Paul Woolston on loan after an injury to their first-choice custodian.

Though he’s highly rated at youth level, the intense competition for places between the posts at St. James’ Park will invariably make life difficult for the 18-year-old.

Not only does he have to battle with the impressive Freddie Woodman at his age group, the likes of Karl Darlow and Matz Sels also provide Rafa Benitez options.

To complicate matters even further, Rob Elliot is looking like he’s returning to full-time training after the nightmare injury that ruled him out of the Euros.

There’s also the small matter of a certain Tim Krul over at Ajax, who recently penned a new deal with the Magpies.

So, Woolston has dropped down to the Green Army for a short while and took to Twitter to celebrate the move.
