There were many summer arrivals to get rather excited about over the course of the transfer window for Newcastle and perhaps it’s fair to say Ciaran Clark wasn’t the top of the list.
Though the Republic of Ireland international amassed a wealth of Premier League experience with Aston Villa over the years, he was never really the most formidable of defenders during his time there.
However, since joining the Toon Army, the 27-year-old has proved an excellent signing for the Magpies and is slowly forming a rock solid partnership with skipper Jamaal Lascelles.
Having edged the popular Chancel Mbemba out of Rafa Benitez’s starting XI, Clark is proving a revelation on Tyneside and was recently included in the EFL Team of the Week for his performance against Cardiff City.
As a result, Clark has been rightly praised on Twitter by the club’s sizeable online base.
Here are some of the best.
Says a lot about Clark. That one player in wrong team under wrong managers until he joined us. #nufc https://t.co/hLJv1WuVgE
