Though the sagas of both Moussa Sissoko and Georginio Wijnaldum dragged on over the course of the summer, there was another.

It’s easy to forget the fact that Daryl Janmaat, who clearly wanted to leave too, was forced to play the opening two fixture of the Championship season before being moved on to Watford.

In the Dutchman’s place arrived American international DeAndre Yedlin, who had then most recently played for Sunderland.

Brought to Wearside on loan last season, the speedster was one of Sam Allardyce’s major players towards the end of the campaign as the Black Cats managed to retain their top-flight status.

However, he’s now playing in black and white, emerging as one of the best signings of the transfer window.

Interestingly enough, Sky pundit and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has given his thoughts on the 23-year-old’s switch across the North East.

He believes the defender was a much better option for those at the Stadium of Light than Billy Jones, the current incumbent of the right-back berth for the Premier League’s bottom side.

“When you looked at Sunderland at the end of last season, I looked at Yedlin at full-back. He was a big, strong powerful lad, who could get up and down”, he told Monday Night Football (with our quotes sourced by HITC.)

”They now have Billy Jones. That was better last season.”
