Top brass at Newcastle United are prepared to back manager Rafa Benitez in the transfer market in January, according to the Chronicle Live

After handing the Spaniard unprecedented control of the club in an attempt to convince him to get him to stay on in charge of the Magpies, those behind the scenes are reportedly ready to absolutely ward off interest in their players.

Skipper Jamaal Lascelles was recently linked with a move to Chelsea after his strong start to the Championship campaign, though is understood to be eager to stay at St. James’ Park.

Clubs are believed to be monitoring Jonjo Shelvey, though those running the club are said to be ready to hand the 56-year-old further funds to strengthen his promotion charge.

The boardroom are reported to have strongly told the former Liverpool and Real Madrid coach there is no need nor intention to sell ANY of their prized assets as they enter a hopeful new dawn under Benitez’s stewardship.
