According to the Irish Independent, Newcastle United are prepared to battle fellow Championship giants Aston Villa for Dundalk winger Daryl Hogan in January.

The 24-year-old has proved impressive during the club’s sensational Europa League run, scoring in a tight loss to Russian titans Zenit St. Petersburg.

Such is the nature of his form for the Lilywhites, he recently received a call-up for the Irish national side and was awarded the Players’ Player of the Year award at Oriel Park.

Competition for the wide man is believed to come in the shape of Preston, Reading and up to THREE MLS sides as interest surrounding him swells.

Hogan, who started his career with Salthill Devon, is gearing up for the FAI Cup final with Cork City, during which he will reportedly be scouted by a host of keen eyes.

The Magpies are understood to have kept an eye on his situation for a while now following Dundalk’s European heroics of late.
