Such was the monumental nature of the rebuild conducted by Rafa Benitez and his staff at Newcastle United over the summer, the Magpies were linked with pretty much every Championship player worth his salt.
Obviously, there was no way the Toon Army could have welcomed every single player touted for a move to Tyneside in just a single summer, though Benitez’s project at St. James’ Park looks far longer term than simply one season.
Though his side are sitting pretty at the top of the Championship right now, the long and arduous nature of a second-tier campaign would suggest further recruits will be needed when January rolls around.
Despite the fact a number of deals failed to come off during the summer months, perhaps the idea they could be reignited is a realistic one.
