Though the main aim of the campaign is quite clearly securing a quick-fire promotion back to the Premier League, the fact Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez seems to be taking cup competition seriously is refreshing.

For oh so long, the Magpies neglected even the idea of a cup run, despite not ever doing much of note in the league, other than being relegated of course.

However, into the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup, the Magpies were handed a decent draw against Premier League strugglers Hull City.

Though the Tigers have proved they are no pushovers this season, there’s every chance the Toon Army could go marching into the final four, adding to a wonderful season.

Now, they have a manager to call in with an immense record in cup competitions.

As you’ll see in the image below, the Tyneside titans finally have a boss who actually is capable of winning the cup, putting the club in it’s best position in a domestic cup for many a year now.

Rafa Benitez has won trophies in England (including both the Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup), Spain and Italy during spells with Liverpool, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Valencia and Napoli.
