Silly season really is kicking into overdrive of late, with Newcastle United linked as a surprise destination for the likes of Steven Gerrard and Michael Carrick recently.
Though the Toon Army have largely deployed a frankly useless age policy in recent years, the full control given to Rafa Benitez looks to have changed that somewhat.
Over the course of the summer, the Magpies drafted in the experienced heads of Jesus Gamez and Daryl Murphy to further round out the squad, further indicating the shift in power when it comes to player recruitment.
So, reports from the Daily Express suggesting Frank Lampard is being eyed up only further that trend.
Whether or not that will extend to moves for players such as Gerrard and Lampard remains to be seen, considering both men are well into their 30s and have been playing in the MLS, though the reports are interesting all the same.
With that in mind, here’s how Twitter reacted to the Lampard rumours.

Now apparently we've been linked with Lampard, don't think we should get both him and Gerrard as they can't play together #nufc

@lee_ryder Big fan of Lampard, but Kenny tried it with Rush, Barnes and Pearce all past it…. Not for me. But Rafa's the gaffa.
