Former Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton’s career took yet another sour turn this week as his short stint with SPFL club Rangers looked as if it has come to a poisonously premature end.
While the one-cap England international was a good player for the Toon Army and proved instrumental during their last Championship campaign, any notion of his return should be quashed right now.
It must be said that the Chronicle have already moved to report the move is highly unlikely, even the mere idea of seeing Barton in black and white is a ludicrous one.
Though it’s always tempting to move for a free agent, especially during a season as arduous as the Championship, there are much better options currently without a club for the Magpies right now.
