Few things are certain in life, as demonstrated today as Donald Trump was elected the next President of the United States, to top off what truly has been a crazy year.
Still, perhaps one thing you can just about hang your hat on is the fact that Joey Barton will indeed spark controversy wherever he goes.
Amazing to think that his spell on Tyneside was relatively uneventful as the one-cap England international nears an Ibrox exit, following a predictably poisonous short stint with Rangers.
With the 34-year-old all but a free agent these days, the Chronicle quickly moved to report that any move from within St. James’ Park to bring the ex-QPR and Manchester City midfielder back to Tyneside was hugely unlikely.
As stoic as he proved during the Toon’s last spell in the Championship, the notion of him returning is a controversial one and it’s hard to see many positives if, in some weird world. Rafa Benitez opted to open discussions.
Still, Newcastle fans on Twitter seem to be rather split over the matter.
Didn’t we have this conversation about Barton returning in the summer?
Absolutely not then; absolutely not now. #nufc

Joey Barton until the end of the season anyone ?? Might be a controversial one but he might fill the void if Shelvey does get banned #nufc

Barton couldn’t hack it playing for Rangers, why on earth would you want him back at #nufc

Just me who would bring Barton back for the remainder of the season? #NUFC

However I’d have Barton on a free to fill the void. #NUFC

Am I the only #NUFC fan who would take Barton back, maybe not for his ability but for his character! https://t.co/nn68mbNfnD
