Such is the nature of his stunning form this season, reports in the Chronicle suggest talk of a contract extension for Newcastle United winger Yoan Gouffran has ‘been floated’.

While the report doesn’t go into too much detail, the French winger is out of contract at the end of the campaign and has been linked with a move to Ligue 1 side Lille.

Despite a mixed spell since joining the Magpies back in January 2013, the 30-year-old has been one of the most fascinating sub-plots of this campaign and emerged as a key member of Rafa Benitez’s squad.

The former Bordeaux man has appeared 15 times thus far and the Toon Army remain unbeaten in ALL of those games – winning 14 and drawing just one.

After seeming set to leave St. James’ Park in the summer, Gouffran is now a truly influential member of the squad and talk of a new deal is said to have arisen of late.

Whether Benitez will keep him on for another year remains to be seen, though the Frenchman is surely making life difficult for his Spanish coach.
