Newcastle United are casting keen eyes over Bournemouth forward Callum Wilson should they win promotion to the Premier League at the first time of asking, according to the Chronicle

Conducting transfer business with the Cherries will be nothing unfamiliar to the Toon Army, who tempted Matt Ritchie away from the south coast to join their Championship campaign on Tyneside earlier this year.

Wilson is one of many talents to have risen the league to the highest tier of late, having plied his trade for the likes of Coventry City, Kettering Town and Tamworth before joining Bournemouth in 2014.

He enjoyed a stunning start to life in the proverbial Promised Land, notching a hat-trick against West Ham United early last season, before a long-term injury ruled him out for pretty much the rest of the campaign.

Rafa Benitez currently has options such as Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic up front, backed up by Daryl Murphy, though could move to strengthen should the Magpies go up.

Top brass are reportedly convinced the 24-year-old will fit the mould, being a young English talent and he’s recovered well since his ailment, hitting three goals this season.
