Newcastle winger Matt Ritchie was interviewed by Sky Sports EFL Weekly podcast about his start to life with the Magpies in the Championship.
Among the questions, he was asked what opponent was the toughest Rafa Benitez’s side had faced this season. He said that David Wagner’s Huddersfield Town were the best so far:
“It’s a difficult one to answer, but I probably have to say Huddersfield, who were the best team we have played so far this season. The way they pressed the ball was impressive and they are a good side.”
Considering Newcastle have already faced most of the real promotion challengers this season including Norwich City and Brighton, it seems like the Terriers are a team to be taken seriously as genuine rivals this season.
Huddersfield are currently top of the EFL Championship with 25 points from eleven matches, three ahead of the Magpies. The 2-1 defeat at home to the Terriers earlier in the season was certainly an eye opener for some fans, but whether they can sustain their excellent form remains to be seen as we head into the second quarter of a long hard Championship campaign.
