Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez believes the Magpies will continue to improve as the season progresses after they scraped a 1-0 victory over Rotherham United at the weekend.

The Spaniard revealed that he had to change his tactics in the first-half as the Millers dominated the ball for long spells before Christian Atsu scored his first goal for the Toon Army.

When asked by the Shields Gazette whether there is still room for improvement in the team’s performances, Benitez responded: “Definitely, 100%. I’m really pleased with them, but still there is room for improvement.

”It is obvious and very clear. If we can keep winning games while we improve, then even better.

”But still we must keep working hard to do this and to get better because there’s still room for improvement.”

The Spanish coach again rotated a couple of his players for the match with Matt Ritchie and DeAndre Yedlin being replaced by Atsu and Vurnon Anita in the side.

While Ritchie has been one of the key players for the Toon Army so far this summer, the decision to introduce Atsu paid off, with the Ghanian scoring the winner in Yorkshire.
