Newcastle striker Dwight Gayle has told the club’s official website that the players have been set a points total to get promotion from the Championship this season.
The Magpies went top of the table after their 2-0 win at Barnsley in mid week and in form Gayle told NUFC TV that they are aiming for at least ninety points to finish in the top two at the end of the long Championship campaign in May:
“We just need to pull through and get promotion. We’re happy to be top but we’ve got a job to do and we need to aim for that 90, 92 points that we think is going to get promotion.”
With Gayle in such good form, they will be able to reach their points target in no time at all. The 25 year old has already scored eleven league goals before the end of October after scoring two more to seal victory at Oakwell on Tuesday night.
The Newcastle forward also revealed he has set himself his own goal target for the season with 20 goals his main aim. He could get their before Christmas the rate he is scoring goals at the moment, but like all strikers, Gayle could hit a cold streak but there is certainly no sign of that currently.
