Newcastle midfielder Jack Colback believes things are now “getting done properly” at Newcastle since the permanent appointment of Rafa Benitez as manager.

The 26 year old thinks the club is now in a position where it can implement a long term strategy and, as well as getting back promoted to the Premier League, they can then look to push on to greater heights. He is quoted by the Evening Chronicle as saying:

“Things seem to be getting done properly now. It’s a long-term goal of promotion and then to get the club back to where it needs to be but if we can do that, we can push on from there and see where we can go.”

One of the key changes that Rafa Benitez wanted when he agreed to stay in the summer was to wrestle control of transfer policy back under the role of the manager. The manager now has the power to make key decisions that involve recruitment as well as other areas which allow for a longer term strategy. Colback and others hope that when the Magpies return to the Premier League, rather than treading water like they have in past seasons, the manager in place will now have the freedom and power to establish the club much higher up the league ladder.
