Dwight Gayle’s recent run of good form for Newcastle United has seen the 25-year-old rightly praised, perhaps even as the best signing of the ‘Rafalution’ thus far. 

However, another summer arrival could well be running the former Crystal Palace in that regard.

Scotland international Matt Ritchie was brought in as a replacement for the departing Andros Townsend in a quick-fire summer raid.

Though the latter recently revealing it was a big decision to leave Tyneside over the summer, he’s been pretty much forgotten about amid the Scot’s solid form.

While the ex-Bournemouth man is perhaps not as much of an illustrious name as the England international, he’s largely proved a decent replacement for the Crystal Palace star.

And after his move south, Ritchie is far more popular.

With that in mind, here are THREE reasons Matt Ritchie is a better option for Newcastle in their current state than Townsend was.
