There’s little doubting the fact it’s been hard to be a Newcastle United fan over the past few years.
Though the ‘Rafalution’ is well underway at St. James’ Park, it’s been a miserable few seasons for the Tyneside titans, as well as us long-suffering fans.
So, remembering the good times has largely been all we can do of late.
Today marks the 35th birthday of Mr Shola Ameobi.
A legend in the North East, the Nigeria international currently finds himself without a club after being released by Fleetwood Town recently.
Still, the ‘Mackem Slayer’ is a cult-hero at his boyhood charges, largely because of his exploits against bitter North East rivals Sunderland.
Seven goals in 12 games against the Black Cats is bettered only by club legend Jackie Milburn, earning him a place in the club’s folklore.
So, on this most momentous of days, here’s a celebration of Mr Shola Ameobi.
