Newcastle winger Matt Ritchie is hoping his goal against Wolves in the League Cup on Tuesday night will be just one of many this season for the Magpies.

The 27 year old was instrumental in both goals in the 2-0 win, scoring the first and setting up Yoan Gouffran for the second two minutes later. Ritchie told the Evening Chronicle:

“Jack[Colback] got in a very good position for me to play a little one-two and I was absolutely delighted to be able to just slide it past the goalkeeper and into the far corner. It was nice to score and it was a well-worked goal.”

“I was due one though – after all that’s what I know I was brought here to do and I need to keep doing. So hopefully we can continue to perform well and I keep putting the ball in the back of the net.”

The £12million signing who joined from Bournemouth in the summer has scored two goals and provided three assists so far this season and he will be hoping to make a similar impact when the Magpies face Aston Villa in the league on Saturday evening. They will hoping for an instant reaction to their defeat against Wolves in the league last weekend.

Newcastle currently sit third in the Championship table on 15 points, 4 points behind league leaders Huddersfield Town. Villa meanwhile are struggling in 18th place after drawing five of their eight league games despite shelling out £25m on a new strike force.
