Former Newcastle midfielder Henri Saivet has talked about his nightmare stay on Tyneside for the first time in an interview with Sports.Fr.

Saivet moved to Newcastle from Bordeaux in a £5million deal back in January but only played four league games for the Magpies before he was loaned back to France with Saint Etienne this season.

The Frenchman was unfortunate in the sense that he was not signed by current manager Rafa Benitez and the fact that the Spanish boss came in barely 2 months after he had signed with Newcastle meant he never had a chance to impress in the first team. Saivet said about his experience at St James’ Park:

“I was recruited to play and I was not playing. It was tough. I had the impression of being paid to do nothing. It was horrible. you’re here, you’re useless.”

It seems that Saivet was however reluctant to leave Bordeaux in the first place which seems likely to have contributed to his lack of playing time, with Rafa Benitez looking for players 100% committed to the cause at Newcastle. The 25 year old revealed he was planning to buy a house in Bordeaux before he was sold to Newcastle:

“I was planning to relocate and buy me a new home on Bordeaux. But when I returned from vacation, I was told there was a lot of interest for me and that if I wanted to leave, I could. I came back from holiday with the desire to start well and I was told that.”

The Senegalese international also revealed he had an offer from Marseille but opted to move to Saint-Etienne.
