Newcastle legend Kevin Keegan says he expects Newcastle to be back in the Premier League next season under current manager Rafa Benitez.

The former Magpies boss was speaking at the unveiling of the statue for fellow Toon legend Alan Shearer. When asked about the current situation at St James’ Park by the Mirror, Keegan replied:

“Newcastle should be in the Premier League. They’re not in there at the moment, but they will be this time next year. I wish Rafa all the luck in the world.”

Keegan believes that the Toon Army will back the team through thick and thin. This has been demonstrated by the huge crowds that have been at the Magpies’ first three home league matches of the season against Huddersfield Town, Reading and Brighton & Hove Albion, Keegan said:

“You’ll never lose what these people feel about this football club. They might not like certain things at certain times, but they’ll still be there. They’ll always be there.”

Newcastle have won five matches in a row under Benitez since losing their first two league games of the campaign, and fans will be hoping that they can make it six victories in a row when they face Queens Park Rangers away from home at Loftus Road tonight.
