Italian newspaper Il Tempo is reporting that Newcastle winger Florian Thauvin is on the verge of sealing a loan move to Lazio. The Serie A side are believed to be waiting for Inter Milan to seal the signing of their outgoing star Antonio Candreva before announcing the deal.

Candreva’s medical however seems to be holding up the transfer, Il Tempo reports, but another source, calciomercato.it, is stating that Thauvin is having second thoughts about the deal. His former club Marseille are believed to have re-entered the race to sign him and the Italian website are reporting that the 23 year old would prefer a return to France.

It was reported last week that a loan move to Lazio with a €11million purchase option was close to being agreed, but it doesn’t look like the deal will be finalised in the immediate future if calciomercato.it are to be believed. Much will depend on whether Marseille make an improved offer for Thauvin. It was previously reported that the French club could not afford any purchase option in a loan agreement for the Frenchman.
