Newcastle United are interested in signing Hull City midfielder Mohamed Diame as a replacement for Moussa Sissoko, according to the Evening Chronicle.

It would be an interesting move considering Diame helped Hull to return to the Premier League last season but the departure of manager Steve Bruce, and the lack of signings at the KC stadium, could lead the 29 year old to question his future with the Tigers.

Dwight Gayle (Crystal Palace) and Matt Ritchie (Bournemouth) have both stepped down a division to play for Newcastle so it isn’t impossible by any means that Diame could make a similar switch.

Diame certainly plays in a similar style to Sissoko with strong powerful runs on the ball a hallmark of his game. He has experience playing in the Premier League with Wigan Athletic, West Ham United and Hull, but he also made 41 appearances in the Championship last season, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists.
