It looks very much like Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is not finished with his summer spending spree yet. The double deal that saw Ciaran Clark join from Aston Villa and Mo Diame join from Hull City took the club’s transfer fees up to £45m this summer but Rafa is aiming for even more than the eight he has brought in already.

Talking on BBC Radio Newcastle (quotes via the Shields Gazette), Rafa said he would like to add two to three more signings before the end of the transfer window:

“We know we have to bring something that will give us more balance. I would like two or three more players if it is possible.”

Benitez is believed to be working hard on bringing in another striker as well as a winger. The Magpies’ bid for Anthony Knockaert was turned down by his club Brighton & Hove Albion and it isn’t expected  Newcastle will meet the £10million valuation placed on the Frenchman by the Seagulls. Newcastle also missed out on Ross McCormack who has signed for Aston Villa while another midfield target Alex Pritchard signed for Norwich City. Benitez will need to turn his sights on to other targets.
