Newcastle United are hoping to add another striker to the side this week, according to the Evening Chronicle. The Magpies already have Dwight Gayle, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Ayoze Perez and Adam Armstrong in the squad but manager Rafa Benitez is keen on adding another name to the list of forwards.

The speculation over the pursuit for another striker has led to rumours that Mitrovic may no longer be in Benitez’s first team plans with the Mirror reporting as much over the weekend.

The Evening Chronicle and the Shields Gazette have both emphatically said however that the Serbian is not for sale, and that it is more likely that Armstrong will leave on loan before the end of the transfer window to make room for another striker. The 1-0 defeat away to Fulham on Friday has led to some to question Newcastle’s potency up front and the signing of another striker would suggest that Rafa agrees with that assessment.
