Scottish Premiership side Rangers are interested in signing Newcastle striker Adam Armstrong on loan, according to the Scottish Sun. The 19 year old did came on as a second half substitute in the 1-0 defeat to Fulham on Friday but manager Rafa Benitez has hinted in an interview with BBC Radio Newcastle that he would be open to Armstrong leaving for another loan spell.

The forward excelled on loan in League One at Coventry City last season, scoring 20 goals and a move to the Scottish Premiership could prove to be another step in his development. It is believed the Magpies are interested in bringing in another striker before transfer deadline day, and with Dwight Gayle, Ayoze Perez and Aleksandar Mitrovic already in the squad, Armstrong could find it hard to get game time at St James’ Park this campaign.

The Sun believe that Rangers are hopeful that Rafa Benitez’s long standing relationship with Gers head of recruitment Frank McParland could hold them in good stead in any negotiation for Armstrong. The pair worked together at Liverpool where the Spaniard appointed McParland as Academy Director.
