French side Nice are interested in signing Newcastle striker Emmanuel Riviere, according to Goal.com France. The 26 year old is not part of Magpies boss Rafa Benitez plans for the current season and is one of a number of players the Spaniard is trying to sell before transfer deadline day.

Riviere, along with Siem De Jong, Henri Saivet, Sammy Ameobi, Haris Vuckic and Yoan Gouffran are all free to leave the club but so far the Magpies have found it hard to offload their unwanted players.

Goal.com believes Nice could help end Riviere’s nightmare stay on Tyneside. He has struggled with injuries and form, and has scored just one Premier League goal in two seasons at St James’ Park. The Ligue One side are said to start discussions with the Magpies “in the coming days” and with the 26 year old’s contract up next summer, Newcastle will have to take a substantial hit on the £6m they paid Monaco two years ago.
