Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko has told the BBC World Service that he needs to leave Newcastle to fulfil his ambitions of playing in big games for a big club who plays in the Champions League.

The French international has been angling for a move all summer and has consistently been in the press over the last few weeks trying to encourage clubs to sign him before the transfer window closes. He said to the BBC:

“They need to understand, I spent three and a half years here. I gave everything for this club and I want to play some big games. For that I need to go somewhere else. I want to play in the Premier League, I want to play for a big club who can get into the Champions League. That’s why I said I want to leave this year. I’ve spent a lot of time here and now it’s time to look forward. The fans need to understand my situation, I hope they will and that everything will be ok.”

Sissoko has been linked with Real Madrid, PSG and a number of Premier League clubs but Newcastle are yet to receive an offer for the 26 year old. Despite the Spanish media reporting that he is not a target for Real Madrid, Sissoko responded when asked about their interest in him:

“I hope Real will come for me, I’m still waiting. If Real Madrid are interested in you then of course you will be happy, but right now I am still a Newcastle player.”

The Frenchman could still yet play a part in Newcastle’s season as Rafa Benitez feels he could reintegrate the player into the first team if a move doesn’t materialise this summer.
