Newcastle United midfielder Mo Diame has told the Toon Army that once he is up to full fitness, he will be almost unstoppable when he runs in full flight against his opponents.

The 29 year old will miss tonight’s match against Reading after picking up a knock in the Magpies’ 2-1 home defeat against Huddersfield Town at the weekend but the Senegalese international told the Evening Chronicle that the best is yet to come:

“I want to get fit and show what I am like when I am flying on the pitch. My main aim is to make the fans happy but to do that I need to be fit. If I am fit, like I say, I’ll be flying and nobody will stop me if I do that.”

With a similar playing style to fellow midfielder Moussa Sissoko, many are tipping Diame to be the Frenchman’s like for like replacement in the middle of the park. The French international has been linked with Juventus, Inter Milan and Everton in recent days but no formal offers have been made for the 27 year old. Diame however says he isn’t at St James’ Park to be anyone’s replacement. He just wants to help Newcastle gain promotion back to the top flight of English football.

“I am not here to replace anybody – I am here to give my best and get the club back to the Premier League.”
