Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez has revealed that the club have turned down two bids for forward Ayoze Perez. The Spaniard has been linked with a move back to Spain with Barcelona this summer in the Spanish media.

The Magpies boss also told BBC Radio Newcastle that one manager phoned up him regarding Perez, and although the offer for the player was a reasonable amount, he didn’t want to lose the 23 year old:

“This year we have received two offers (for Perez). We don’t want to sell him.He has been working very hard during the summer, he is doing well. Directly, one coach was calling me, asking for him, with a good price to be fair.”

Perez will be competing with Dwight Gayle, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Adam Armstrong for a forward position this season, and Rafa is expected to add another striker to the mix before transfer deadline day. It looks as though that the Newcastle manager rates Perez very highly and is not prepared to lose the Spaniard no matter what the price. We will have to wait and see whether he starts the match tonight against Fulham as the Magpies get their Championship campaign underway at Craven Cottage.
