With Newcastle United still coming to terms with the new era under Rafa Benitez, the Spaniard is gearing up for his first cup game in charge of the Magpies.

The 56-year-old’s arrival back in March, and more importantly his decision to stay in June, heralded a new dawn for the Toon Army. For the first time in years, they have a proper manager.

What has largely defined the unambitious nature of the club in recent years has been the attitude shown towards cup competitions.

Never taken seriously in the slightest, dismal losses have further compounded the misery at St. James’ Park, culminating in their relegation from the Premier League.

Still, that was then and this is now.

With a serial cup-winning manager at the helm, perhaps the feelings of optimism so prevalent at the club can carry over into the cup games.

Taking them seriously would be a complete departure from previous regimes, finally giving the fans something to shout about.

Standing in their way this evening are Cheltenham Town, who make the long journey to the North East after conquering Charlton in the last round.

It’ll be quite the experience for the home side, who tend to crumble under pressure when favourites.

So, what should we look out for this evening?
