Newcastle have discussed the possibility of a loan deal for Liverpool players as part of their negotiations with the Reds over the sale of Georginio Wijnaldum, according to the Northern Echo.
Reports have suggested that Rafa Benitez is interested in Lucas Leiva and Jon Flanagan but the Echo believes that negotiations did not go beyond initial discussions regarding the loans, and that they are now looking for a straight cash deal to sell Wijnaldum.
Lucas is believed to be one of the six players reported that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wants to sell this summer with Turkish champions Besiktas believed to be front runners for the player. Flanagan meanwhile has been on the long road to recovery from a serious knee injury which kept him out for 18 months. He returned to fitness in the last few months of last season. He is expected to be Nathaniel Clyne’s understudy at right back next season.
In regards to Wijnaldum, the Reds are believed to be willing to pay £20million for the Dutch international while the Magpies are holding out for their asking price of £27million. It is expected though that a compromise will be reached with a bid in the region of £25million believed to be acceptable to the Magpies.
