Borussia Dortmund have joined the race to sign Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko, according to the Shields Gazette. The Bundesliga club are said to be “weighing up” a move for the 26 year old, the local paper reports.

The French international is said to be “open” to a move to Germany. Before the European Championships, another German side Hamburg were said to be in discussions with Newcastle regarding Sissoko but his increased valuation after his performances at the Euros have priced them out of a move.

Dortmund meanwhile are seeking to replace Henrikh Mkhitaryan who left for Manchester United in a £26million move last week but it is unlikely that Sissoko would be a direct replacement as the Armenian scored 23 goals and provided 32 assists last season for Dortmund while Sissoko scored only one goal and made eight assists. It is believed that no clubs have made a bid for Sissoko as of yet and Rafa Benitez is said to be keen on keeping the player on Tyneside.
