Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez has revealed that the future of Florian Thauvin is not yet certain despite the winger making a second half appearance in the 6-0 friendly win against Irish side Bohemians FC on Saturday.

The 23 year old scored in the rout but the Magpies boss told the Shields Gazette that they are waiting for offers for the Frenchman:

“I think they have to try their best (in pre-season), and after, we will decide. It depends on the offers. It depends. We will analyse each case.”

Thauvin spent the second half of last season on loan back in his homeland with Marseille but the Ligue One club are in financial trouble and will struggle to meet Newcastle’s valuation for the player, who was bought from Marseille for £12million last summer. The Magpies want to recoup as much money as possible and are unlikely to agree to a cut price deal to allow Thauvin to return to France.

Lazio were also linked with Thauvin earlier in the summer with his former manager Marcelo Bielsa taking over at the Italian club but after the Argentine left his post after just two days, any prospect of a move appears to have fallen through.
