Blackburn Rovers manager Owen Coyle has confirmed that Newcastle are interested in signing centre back Grant Hanley.

According to reports, the Magpies have had two bids rejected of £3.5million and £4.5million for the 24 year old but Coyle says Rafa Benitez’s side have failed to match Rovers’ valuation of the player. He was quoted by the Chronicle as saying.

“I don’t want to sell Grant. You can’t stop clubs enquiring about your players. In my opinion they’re nowhere the valuation of Grant.”

Blackburn are believed to be holding out for £6million for the player and Newcastle may have to match their asking price for the Scotland international as they look to shore up a backline which has lost experienced players in Steven Taylor and Fabricio Coloccini this summer.

While Taylor was allowed to leave after his contract expired at St James Park, Club captain Coloccini was released from his contract and allowed to leave on a free transfer to return to Argentina with San Lorenzo. Rovers captain Hanley could provide the leadership the backline needs as they face a tough season in the Championship.
